. . .here is another ‘before & after’ coming this time from Holy Comforter in Charlottesville, Virginia, executed by Erik Bootsma Architecture. Holy Comforter’s previous sanctuary arrangement would look odd to anyone who was not familiar with the underlying theology which informed it (& even then it might still look odd). . .
. . .this particular renovation took place at St Mark’s Catholic Church in Peoria, Illinois & was the first full-scale church renovation done by Murals by Jericho (MBJ, an Architectural & Arts Business Apostolate); one that, by all accounts, was a smashing success. . .
. . .The exterior of the chapel is heavily influenced by the Romanesque. Especially striking is the octagonal dome/tower which is reminiscent of many of the historical churches found in Milan & other parts of Italy. . .
