McCarrick Watch: VVednesday Edition

Archbishop Emeritus Theodore McCarrick (Pic Credit: Screen Shot from PBS News Hour)

When Two Gay Catholic Tribes Go To (Cold) War

. . .the first tribe is the Progressives — some sexually active, others not — who believe homosexuality should be normalized by the Catholic Church, and are pushing openly for the Church to change its teachings to reflect that. . .

. . .the second tribe are Conservatives who live a double life.  Outwardly they advocate for traditional Catholic teaching on homosexuality, but they also live homosocially (in the sense of socializing with other gay conservative priests), and some have gay sex.  They, therefore, live in a state of cognitive dissonance. . .

Kevin Cardinal Farrell (Pic Credit: Life Site)

Rocked by Scandals, the Vatican Should Cancel the Pro-Homosexual World Meeting of Families

. . .claims of innocence are not going to be enough any longer, nor the protections of the old-boy networks.  Take the case of Kevin Cardinal Farrell, one-time auxiliary bishop of Washington D.C., who claims, implausibly, not to have known anything irregular about McCarrick, with whom he lived for six years. . .

. . .It seems highly unlikely, though it’s just barely possible.  And if so – a big if – Cardinal Farrell himself may now become a victim of McCarrick’s evil deeds.  Farrell will be one of the speakers at the World Meeting of Families in Dublin later this month.  Whether he’s to blame or not, his credibility as head of the new Dicastery for Laity, Family, & Life has been damaged.  And will not be restored unless there’s a thorough investigation of what he & others knew – & didn’t know.

Rainbow over the Vatican (Pic Credit: Vatican News via Roman Catholic Man)

St. John Bosco Told Us This Year Would Happen

. . .well known is St. John Bosco’s “dream of the two columns” where he foresaw the future difficulties of the Church, envisioned as a ship on stormy seas.  Several popes strive to moor the Church & anchor it between two columns which arose amid the dangerous waters.  The columns symbolized the two devotions to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament & to Mary Immaculate, the Help of Christians.  Calm & peace for the Church is won only when one of the popes finally succeeds in anchoring the Church between the two columns. . .

Liturgy’s Changes Resulted in Abandonment of Commandments, Gospels

. . .I am of the opinion, to be sure, that the old rite should be granted much more generously to all those who desire it.  It’s impossible to see what could be dangerous or unacceptable about that.  A community is calling its very being into question when it suddenly declares that what until now was its holiest & highest possession is strictly forbidden, & when it makes the longing for it seem downright indecent.  Can it be trusted any more about anything else?  Won’t it proscribe tomorrow what it prescribes today? — Cardinal Ratzinger. . .

Pope Francis Greeting Archbishop Emeritus McCarrick (Pic Credit: Rorate Caeli)

The Homosexual Subculture of Bishops & Priests is as Large as Ever

. . .one would have to be a hermit not to know about quondam Cardinal McCarrick’s precipitous fall from grace.  The New York Times, probably with great relish, ran three stories on McCarrick’s other career as “Uncle Ted”, sexual predator of young men.  The story was taken up by the whole mediasphere for at least a week & still continues at this writing.  The Church, thanks be to God, acted swiftly, stripping him of his public ministry, removing his membership in the College of Cardinals, & planning a trial in the Vatican in the future.  The secular press often wonders how such a man could have been promoted to the very highest levels in the Church.  But that sense of wonder masks an assumption that moral corruption in the Catholic Church is far & wide among its clerics. . .
