McCarrick Watch: Saturday Edition

Archbishop McCarrick (Pic Credit: Screen Shot from NCRegister.com)

McCarrick Resigned from the College of Cardinals, Wherein Fr. Z Rants

. . .lots of people are really angry, indeed enraged.  Horrid situations such as those caused by men like McCarrick are painful.  We can make choices about how to view them.  Anger is appropriate, but not to the point where we are merely giving voice to our spittle-flecked Ids.  Sad situations like this must be taken as an opportunity for grace.  When you see this filth in the Church, remember that Christ created His Church for sinners: you, me & McCarrick.  If anger is the first impulse that we have when we see this awful stuff, the second impulse must be to say, “God, have mercy on me, a sinner!”, & then go to confession & do some penance. . .

Masculine & Strong Catholic Priests (Credit: Catholic Candy)

. . .our Catholic identity was devastated after the Council, particularly due to a loss of the sense of the transcendent in our worship & our church buildings.  In well-intentioned attempts to undo of the damage, some have thought to appropriate elements of Eastern Christianity, which did not undergo such a dramatic loss of the transcendent.  They started to “byzantinize” our Latin churches. . . No.  We have our own Latin traditions which ought to be recovered. . .

The Catholic Controversy by St. Francis de Sales (Credit: Screen Shot Pic from Off the Cuff)

5 Books that Walked Me Back to the Faith

. . .Crossing the Tiber.  Journey Home.  Coming Home.  However you label that decision to go all in on Catholicism, the process is never without heartbreak & loss.  After falling in love with my non-Catholic husband & subsequently falling away from my Catholic roots, we spent 17 years roaming the Protestant landscape.  My everyday life friends were also deeply steeped in our schooling & faith community.  Therefore, when we left that faith tradition, we inevitably had to leave behind some sweet relationships that just did not survive the departure. . .
