Three Cardinals — Farrell, Tobin, & O’Malley — Have Some Explaining To Do

. . .these bureaucrats, I swear.  Father Ramsey took a big risk to try to handle this within the Church, but the best he could get from Cardinal O’Malley is the clerical version of, “Sorry, that’s not my table”. . .

Fatima, the Sun, the Black Banner & a Friar’s Prophecy: “We Can Bring You Down & We Will”

. . .Poland.  At the end of the second decade of the 20th century.  A young, conventual, Franciscan Friar is seated at his desk trying to organize his thoughts.  On the desk there is only a small image of Our Lady.  For some months now there has been talk of a “beautiful Lady” appearing to three little illiterate shepherds in Portugal.  All the newspapers had reported it.  They had reported the strange apparitions & the Miracle of the Sun, a prodigy previously foretold by the little shepherds. . .

Beautiful Church Interior (Credit: Chad Greiter of Unsplash via Those Catholic Men)

Millenials Don’t Want a Relevant Church, So Stop Embarrassing Us

. . .relevancy appears to be little more than a popularity contest.  The men of my generation—the infamous “millennials”—are going to see what they are going to see.  The Catholic Church should never feel compelled to be popular, relevant, or hip for them or for any other generation.  She has never existed to be cool or culturally germane, & she should really stop trying to pretend she is.  Such efforts are actually embarrassing.  The truth is, millennials need the Church to be even less popular than she is.  “Salt & light” are not always inviting.  They are not about acceptance or relevancy in a relativistic world.  What they are—what they should be—are the requisite characteristics of the Bride of Christ—the One.  Holy.  Catholic.  Apostolic Church. . .

Novus Quodlibet: The New Whatever Liturgy

. . .I have attended the Novus Ordo Mass all my life.  I do not believe it was necessarily a mistake to have the Mass translated into the vernacular so that people could more readily understand the words & the action.  Yet I have great sympathy for people who flock to, or flee to, the traditional rite, & have wondered why, if language alone were the point, that old rite had not simply been translated & otherwise left as it was. . .

10 Quotes About Hell from the Saints that Just Might Scare You Into Heaven

. . .all of us will eventually die & face judgment before God.  If we die in Christ, we’ll go to heaven (with perhaps a temporary period of cleansing in Purgatory first).  If we die in mortal or Original sin, then we go straight away to hell for all eternity, with no hope for redemption. . .

This Might be the Best Trick the Devil has Up His Sleeve

. . .do you remember this proverb?  “Idle hands are the Devil’s workshop.”  What about an idle mind?  What kind of mischief can the Devil stir up in a mind that is “idle,” that is, one that is not guided by virtues & grace & busy with what is True, Good & Beautiful?  Such an unoccupied mind will soon find itself occupied with what is dark, despairing, &, at the worst—damning. . .
