Salve friends, Catholics, brother and sisters in Christ,
Posting news stories on Big Pulpit is a passion for me. More precisely, I enjoy reading the news.
When I was a little boy, I read a lot and discovered my love of history. Watching my father read his paper at breakfast or at dinner time, I was keen to see what was so interesting. I picked up his paper and enjoyed reading it. What I discovered was that the reporting of current events was similar to history, it was history being written of the day!
From then on, reading the newspaper became a time for me to relax, taking a break from whatever task I was occupied with at the time.
With the dawn of the Internet age, I discovered, again, news online.
I remember studying and working in the computer labs in graduate school and stumbling across ABC News online. I read it ‘religiously’ each day I was at the computer lab. I could now check in two or three times a day for news, instead of waiting for the next day’s paper or watching it online. What was different was I did it at my own leisure. No longer did I have to wait for CNN or the Fox News Channel programming at the hour they chose to broadcast, for news anymore.
Fast forward to today, online news has become more sophisticated, which is where we now have, BigPulpit.com.
We have friendly competitors, but we offer a distinct choice. More news stories, from wider available options, and organized in a uniform and structured manner to make it easier for the reader to discern what to read.
I have various tools and strategies that I utilize to curate the news stories for you. It’s enjoyable for me as well as it is work. Work meaning it takes time and effort. In addition to designing and building the website, we also have to pay for hosting and many other applications to present our work, i.e., it takes money.
We have had advertising for almost the entire lifetime of this website, but it only covers about 15% of our operating costs. I have done my best to bring in sponsors, which have come and gone over the years. Right now we have none, although I allow Meghan Ashley to continue because they are friends of mine, so until I find new sponsors, they will remain there.
