Bishop Patrick J. McGrath of the Diocese of San Jose

The Gay Diocese of Bishop “P.J.” McGrath

. . .Bishop Patrick Joseph McGrath, during his tenure as Bishop in the fifth-largest Diocese in California, the Diocese of San Jose (home to over 600,000 Catholics) has become one of the most gay-affirmative dioceses in the U.S.  Installed in 1999, although Bishop McGrath has a long history of gay-affirmation, in 2017 he was widely lauded by LGBT activists when he publicly criticized a decree given by Bishop Thomas Paprocki of Springfield, which stated that individuals involved in a same-sex marriage should not present themselves for the reception of certain Sacraments; for instance, the Eucharist.  It should be noted that the decree of Bishop Paprocki did not deny anyone the Sacrament of Confession. . .

TVESDAY LATE EDITION

Pope Francis & Archbishop Emeritus McCarrick (Pic Credit: Crisis Magazine)

Why I Don’t Call Anyone “Gay”

. . .the clergy sex abuse & cover-up stories have created a linguistic challenge for faithful Catholics.  Over 80 percent of these clergy abuse cases involve predatory sexual activity between adult men & younger men in less powerful positions.  Some Catholic commentators refer to these cases as “gay” to distinguish them from “pedophilia.”  Their intention is sound: the “pedophilia” label has frequently been a way to deflect attention away from abusive homosexual conduct.  I, however, maintain that we should avoid the word “gay,” & even the word “homosexual.”  Former Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò’s bombshell revelations about sexual abuse & the network of cover-ups raise the stakes.  We really must get the terminology right. . .

. . .the fact that Pope Francis refused to answer questions about Viganò’s charges on the flight back from the World Meeting of Families in Ireland is telling.  How likely is it that an innocent man would let these multiple serious charges of malfeasance remain unanswered?  Certainly possible, but highly unlikely. . .
